Wet Caving

In Jerusalem we went to underground caves in the City of David. They were filled up to our shins with water. It was a great experience and very different from anything we’ve ever done. Before we walked through, we watched a video of the how David and his troupes used the caves. This video was very beneficial because it was cool to imagine those kings walking through the caves while we were. It also made it more special to know how old these caves were. We first walked through knee deep water, but the water level varied throughout the cave. The water was FREEZING, but we quickly adjusted. Stalactites were forming on the ceiling and walls for the past hundreds of years. They are formed by water that has been dripping down on the same spot repeatedly, and this causes the wall the form spikes. In millions of years big spikes will hang from the ceiling but for now you can only see them start to form. The caves were very cool as they were underground and felt very good compared to the scorching 100 degrees outside. This was a great adventure and I didn’t want it to end!

  1. The underground caves sound amazing and I bet the freezing water felt so good after being outside in the hot Israel weather!
In Milwaukee, we wore winter hats yesterday while watching Cameron and the Nicolet tennis team play outside! Enjoy every minute of your adventures.

  2. I loved those tunnels! I was definitely nervous walking through yet would do it again tomorrow. I hope you are all loving this amazing experience.
