Day 2: Hiking in the desert

This is Logan.

On Wednesday May 15, we arrived at the trail that we were going to hike. We followed the trail and stopped to talk about how the plants survived in the Negev, and then we continued along the trail. Near the midway point of the trail we stopped at a magnificent waterfall with life surrounding it like dragonfly’s and birds. We hung out around the waterfall for while.

We were given the option to stay on the trail or head back the direction we came. I made the wonderful decision to stay on the trail and hike up the mountain, and I am so lucky and happy that I made that choice. First, we climbed up tons of hundreds of stairs, and the view was so beautiful since we could see the glistening plants below and the glowing long valley.

After we got close to the top there were ladders that we had to climb up to ascend higher, then there were more stairs and then another ladder and until we reached the top. After we accomplished the climb, we sat in the shade and learned about something very important to Israel and Israeli wildlife enthusiasts, which are the vulture population in Israel. We learned that there were around only 20 vultures in Israel since 8 vultures were poisoned a couple days ago. Vultures are important to their ecosystem, so I am glad we learned about it.
