Testing our Rapunzel challenge

1

Posted by dgray21 | Posted in ETC | Posted on January 7, 2019

What materials did you choose for your build and why?

Cardboard, metal bowl and model magic. We used these to build the tower the moat and Rapunzel. Using these we were able to create the correct scene of too much rain.

Here is a picture of my plan:

Here is a picture of my first attempt at the building process:

While you test:

What are you noticing?

I noticed that it is working how we planned it to. The plan was simple and easy. I think that we could have done maybe harder?

What things are working?

Everything is working perfectly.

What things are not working?

Nothing is not working it’s all going extremely well

How will you tweak this? Make this better? (Be specific and detailed!)

We will keep the pool idea but we are going to add a working zip line to take her down into the water. we will use a tiny catapult at the beginning to launch her forward into the zip line.

Do you need any new materials? If so, WHY?

We will need a rope and some more cardboard. using these we can create the zip line and the zipline cart.

Sketch your new design with labels on a piece of paper. Make sure your drawing is detailed and specifically labeled.

Insert your sketch here:

Why will this new design work better than your first attempt? What is your evidence?

She will not break her head open because it’s a safe way down.

How did spending more time on planning improve your final blueprint?

It made it so that we could do this task without touching it.

How did your group come to one final plan after brainstorming several ideas?

We all agreed it was a good plan and we edited it into a better one.

Why do you think taking more time to plan was important?

It helped us come up with a more realistic plan

Did brainstorming with multiple people help you come up with more ideas? How?

yes because my partners also had some good ideas

What would you differently during the planning process next time?

think more realistically

Cereal Box Challenge

Posted by dgray21 | Posted in ETC | Posted on November 19, 2018

Today’s Challenge: Create a new kind of cereal and its box. Using a piece of poster board, you and your team need to create your own box, with the goal of having the largest possible volume.

Teamwork Rubric Focus (Participation):

My goal for participation today within my team is…

To let others share their ideas

My Individual Plan <insert photo of sketch and/or type out plan>

Why I think my plan will be successful:

It’s very efficient and it’s the coolest design and the best way to make a box.

Our Group’s Plan <insert photo or sketch and/or type out plan>

We are going to make off-brand “Ninja Puffs” and we will fold the box from the lines and  then we tape it together

We chose this plan because…

It used all of our plans

Possible challenges that may come up during construction…

Box not being sturdy enough

Each team member will be responsible for…

Drawing and then folding and then taping.

After the Build

<insert photo of completed cereal box>

Our design worked well because…

We designed and decorated it well

This activity was challenging because…

It took a long time to finish

This activity was comfortable because….

we got it done and we got it done well

I met my teamwork participation goal by…

Letting people do some work?

A strength of my team was….

Our beautiful box, Ours was the best.

An area of growth for my team is…

To worry less about looks and worry more about having fun?

For our next challenge, my new teamwork participation goal for myself is….

Have fun?

Today’s Challenge: Using only an index card and a scissors find a way to cut your index card so you can fit your entire body through it.

Teamwork Rubric Focus (Organization/Planning):

My goal for organization/planning today within my team is…

My goal for organization and planning is to do a good job and get it done.

My Individual Plan <insert photo of sketch and/or type out plan>

My individual plan is to cut something big enough to get my whole body through it

Why I think my plan will be successful:

I don’t know if it will be successful but I will hope and pray.

Our Group’s Plan <insert photo or sketch and/or type out plan>

We will cut slits in paper to fit a body through it.

We chose this plan because…

It was the only plan we had.

Possible challenges that may come up during construction…

Each team member will be responsible for…

After the Build

<insert photo of group member fitting through the index card>

Our design worked well because…

Well it didn’t because it broke.

This activity was challenging because…

It was challenging because everything always broke.

This activity was comfortable because….

Well it wasn’t

I met my teamwork organization/planning goal by…

I didn’t really…

A strength of my team was….

Working until the end.

An area of growth for my team is…

Think of better plans.

For our next challenge, my new teamwork organization/planning goal for myself is….

The same as this time.

How have you changed as a group member this year in ETC?

I feel that I have changed as a group member because I am doing a lot more stuff to help the project than last year and I’m doing the recording so everyone else has a chance to help with the project.

How has working in ETC made you a better student in other classes? (Social Studies, ELA, Jewish Studies, Hebrew, Math, Science)

To be honest I don’t feel like I’ve improved in other classes because of ETC.

Thinking about my blog posts, I have improved by….

I have Improved m=by making my posts a lot more detailed and telling what happened with a more descriptive way

In the future, I plan to improve my blog posts by….

I think my plan is to improve even more with my descriptiveness.
