1. Include AT LEAST 5 photos from today

2. Each photo should have the following:
a. description of what you are doing
b. description of why you are doing it
c. explanation as to how you worked with others to get this thing done

in this picture, we are lining up the stud for it to go inside and be cut We are doing this so we can fit the stud in on the slanted top. I worked very well with Ari and bree to help me with doors while carrying the wood inside.

In this picture Ari is screwing and nailing while oren and I are lining up the stud We are doing this so we can get the stud in place against the slanted top plate

Here is when I was re-drawing the lines for where our studs needed to go I did this because I screwed up on the most recent stud and we needed to re-calculate where each line goes so the wall can still work.

Here Mallory and I are standing and sitting on the piece of wood Ari is putting in We are doing this so the wood doesn’t move while Ari is nailing and screwing

I did not have 5 pictures (SORRY!)

1. What did your group accomplish today?

WE FINISHED!!!!   I kinda joined another group and now I’m helping them.

2. What do you have left to complete in order for your wall to be finished?

Nothing and in the other group we need to put in more studs and we need to get the top plate on.

3. Explain how well your group communicated/participated today. Be sure to include one specific example.

Definitely better than usual because it seemed like everyone wasn’t yelling at each other.

Include at least 1 photo from today, with a description for each photo (ex: where were you, what were you doing, what did you feel at that time).

This is asher putting in one of our last screws.

1. What did your group accomplish today?

Today we accomplished about five of the nine studs! I feel like we are so close to finishing! SO close I can almost taste the victory!!!!

2. What do you have left to complete in order for your wall to be finished?

We need about 3 more studs nailed and screwed in and then we just need to do the final corner and then were done!

3. What help do you need from me (Adon Kaufman) or your classmates? Be specific.

I think today we will need to move our wall to the spot so, in theory, I think we will need Kaufman and a lot of other people from this project to help us get it over there. today I’m hoping that we can help some other groups get a move on!

Include at least 1 photo from yesterday, with a description for each photo (ex: where were you, what were you doing, what did you feel at that time).

this is me hammering one of the nails on the corner. This happens to be the one that I may have accidentally broke off the head to the nail? oops. heh heh…

Sukkah Day 9

1. Describe what skills (s) you have learned so far. Who taught you those skills? How did they teach you those skills? How can you master those skills?

I have learned how to hammer in nails in the correct way and I learned how to drill in screws into big pieces of wood. I think Kaufman taught me these skills because really over this entire period of sukkah building Kaufman has been showing me how to put in carriage bolts, how to screw in a small screw, how to hammer in big nails, how to screw in big screws into big wood. He taught me all these skills by showing me and giving me examples and also being there to give me different methods on how to do things I am doing, for example, I was hammering a nail in to the wood and I couldn’t get it straight and Kaufman showed me a way to hammer it in that made it go in straight.  I think the more practice I get with these things, the better I get at these things. who knows? maybe one day I’ll be able to create my own entire table!

2. Explain if you believe your group is ahead or behind other groups. Explain why you believe you are at that point.

I believe that my group is ahead of the other groups. It seems as though my group is already on the second side of studs and corners while in the back one group is still putting in their first couple of studs. I think that we are ahead because it seems our group is getting along the best! It seems we are communicating clearly, asking each other for help or even asking permission from each other before making problems. I think my group is one of the only two groups who hasn’t had a BIG problem.

3. How effectively did your group communicate and collaborate with each other? Provide one SPECIFIC example to support your point.

I think my group (as I said above) is communicating the best out of all of the groups. I think we are definitely being nice to each other with an occasional yell. For example, I was going to start hammering in the second nail for the corner when Livi came out and asked if she could do it. I simply gave her the hammer and said sure. It made me feel good to be nice to my groupmate!

4. Today is a complete reset from last week. What is one goal YOU have for yourself? Explain why you picked that goal.

One goal I have for myself is to do less goofing off because as I remember from last week we didn’t get a lot done on Friday and I was mostly walking around asking other teams what they were doing. I felt like my goofing off got us a bit of a fail on Friday.

5. What is one goal you have for YOUR team? Explain why you picked that goal.

The goal I have for my team is to keep our eyes on the prize and get it done! We are SO close to finishing our wall!

Include at least 1 photo from yesterday, with a description for each photo (ex: where were you, what were you doing, what did you feel at that time).

Just one more side! Were so close!!!!!

Sukkah Day 8 – Problem Solving

0

Posted by dgray21 | Posted in Sukkah Project | Posted on September 20, 2019

1. What are the five steps to solving a problem (please list the steps)?

  1. Define the problem
  2. Try not to get heated or upset and tell yourself you can work it out
  3. Think of 3 ways to solve your problem
  4. Discuss solutions with a friend and agree on one
  5. If your solution works, you are done. if not, try another idea

2. Your group identified a problem you were experiencing. What was the problem? What were your solutions?

Our group’s problem was confirmation from each other. we said that before we made any more changes ask someone in the group first. We also said to “be on the same page” meaning to confirm with everyone that what you are about to do is something we want to do. and the last one we made was to improvise with each other meaning that if someone already did something on accident we needed to talk and make a new plan so we can still have the wall look good.

3. Describe how it felt working with your group after you identified your problem and came up with solutions.

After this problem, I felt like I would always ask first. for example: “This drill looks like it’s in the right place.” “Hey _______! Does this look ok?”  and then he would tell me: “yeah that looks fine!”. Every single nail and screw that was placed was first put in a certain spot and then hammered or drilled in after getting confirmation first.

Include at least 1 photo from yesterday, with a description for each photo (ex: where were you, what were you doing, what did you feel at that time).

This is me drilling a pilot hole for a carriage bolt in after asking for confirmation from my group mates 😉

Sukkah Day 7

1. Provide a SPECIFIC example of when you or a member of your group struggled to communicate effectively, with empathy, or appropriately. Make sure to include:
a. What led to that situation of miscommunication
b. How you felt when the miscommunication happened
c. How that miscommunication should have been handled instead

I was using the wrench to check and make sure that all of our nuts and bolts were tight and not loose when Asher was talking to me and telling me to stop but I told him that Kaufman told me I could do it and he said it’s fine but it wasn’t really… eventually we had to take the boards outside and everything was back to normal but I felt like asher wasn’t communicating effectively because he wasn’t letting me do the job the teacher told me to do.

2. Explain how poor communication let your team down. Make sure to include:
a. What was your team goal
b. What did you achieve in comparison to your team goal

It seemed as though my mind was focused on whatever I was doing at the time and if someone was talking to me it told me to “ignore them” and I did and now I feel pretty bad about it…  our team goal for this day was to get the rest of our carriage bolts in and start taking the wood outside. well we reached that goal because WE ARE ALL STRONG HEALTHY BOIS.

3. Describe one positive example of communication you witnessed/did yesterday during class. Make sure to include:
a. What was the situation
b. How did it feel different
c. What the outcome of that communication was

I and my group communicated very well when it came to helping each other and taking turns drilling or hammering. I felt like one person would drill a hole and then another person would ask: “can I do the next hole?” and there would be an instant “sure!”. It made me feel very good to have all this happening because we were getting along so well!

Include at least 1 photo from yesterday, with a description for each photo (ex: where were you, what were you doing, what did you feel at that time)

This is one of my group members drilling hole for a carriage bolt and to be honest I was just standing around not helping qwq heh heh…

This is me organizing the nuts and bolts which I thought was pretty helpful… don’t know how the others felt about it.

Sukkah wall construction (day 6)

Posted by dgray21 | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on September 18, 2019

1. You spent time reflecting on past blog posts (looking at your strengths and weaknesses).
Describe the value, using a specific example from your blog post, of looking back and reflecting on our work

The value of this day was that we were able to fix all of our blog posts and revise them. I know for myself looking at my previous blog posts they were well, to be honest kind of crappy but after that day you will notice my detail became much MUCH better.

2. We started to build our walls. What would you have done differently during the process and WHY? Explain what you did and how your fix would have made it better

I think my group could have probably gotten along a little better… I think we ended up ignoring each other a little bit and it ended up being a pretty hot mess… I think we probably should have been a little calmer because I remember being very heated at asher.

Include at least 1 photo from yesterday, with a description for each photo (ex: where were you, what were you doing, what did you feel at that time). If you do not have a photo, make sure to look at Adon Kaufman’s blog

this is me and one of my group mates this was after I organized the nuts and bolts. I felt pretty useless right then…

Egg drop challenge

2. post video:

IMG-0734

3. Answer the following prompts (copy and paste these prompts into your post and bold them):
Describe your prototype design.

Our prototype design was a pyramid made out of straw with wood sticks as things that will take the fall for the egg.
How does your prototype protect the egg?

This prototype has foam and duct tape to create a comfy looking space inside of the pyramid.
Describe your design process, in detail.

Our original Idea involved balloons and we slowly moved towards not having balloons and we made some extra supports to help take more of the fall.
What worked well in your design?

The supports that took the fall were very very good for the design because it made it so the egg didn’t take the fall directly (except for after XD)
What was challenging throughout this process? What would you do differently?

The challenging part was making the egg in a safe place because in the end the egg STILL FELL OUT.

Sukkah Organization (day 5)

Posted by dgray21 | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on September 15, 2019

1. Describe the restorative circle process (when we wrote on our note cards and shared). Include: how you felt writing your notecard, how you felt sharing your notecard, how you felt if/when someone shared a notecard with you

The process was writing on a notecard to a certain person who you felt you did something wrong to and apologizing. While writing my notecard my mind couldn’t help but look back to the day when I did do this to that person and it made me feel kind of selfish and mean. I felt very good sharing my notecard because the person was very understanding and he accepted my apology. When someone shared a notecard with me it made me feel happy to accept their apology and keep being friends.

2. Describe how much easier/harder it was to bring the wood in when we were all working together. Include: how did it feel to work together, how were you communicating, how quickly things got done when we worked together

When we worked together it felt like everything was going so much faster! Everyone was cooperating and passing wood by wood by wood from hand to hand to hand. I was in charge of the organization/placement of the wood with Ari. Ari and I were really a team and it felt great because we were working really well together but there were those times when I accidentally dropped a log on Ari’s foot (Sorry!). Everyone seemed to have been having fun in the end. :3

Include at least 1 photo from yesterday, with a description for each photo (ex: where were you, what were you doing, what did you feel at that time). If you do not have a photo, make sure to look at Adon Kaufman’s blog

This is me and Ari placing the wood. We used duct tape and wrote on the ground 8ft, 10ft, 12ft, and 11ft. I felt pretty EPIC while doing this because my mind thought I was being helpful and to be honest this was a lot of fun!

7th One Pager Summer Reading Assessment

2

Posted by dgray21 | Posted in ELA, Uncategorized | Posted on September 13, 2019

My Summer Reading book was Artemis Fowl and the arctic incident the second book in the Fowl series.

  1. Explain three choices you made on your one-pager which show your comprehension of the book or what you learned from the book.  One choice I made on my project was Drawing a picture of the main character Artemis. I made this choice because it shows I understood how the book described how he looked because the book always gave details about how he looked. I learned that at the end of the book his appearance is very different from how they described him in the beginning.

Another choice I made was drawing a background that was similar to the front cover. I made this choice so the reader can get an idea that the main character was in a setting similar to the cover. I understood the important setting where most of the book took place because when the characters got to this setting they described it in big detail. I also learned that this icy setting was supposedly in the midst of Russia.

The last choice I made was re-creating the symbol of Artemis Fowl. I made this choice because I felt as though it was a big symbol of the book. I understood how it looked because the cover had the symbol on it. I also learned that this symbol is very hard to re-draw.

  1. Explain how you used color on your one-pager.

I didn’t use a lot of colors because the setting the picture is in, is the arctic. I did use the colors: Dark blue, light blue, and purple because these are considered “cold” colors. I felt like these colors would best represent the arctic along with white for the snowy ground. I also used black to color in Artemis and the ship-wreck in the background.

  1. Explain two pieces of textual evidence and why you choose that text for your one-pager.

I chose to put quotes that best represented Artemis. I chose the quote: “A criminal mastermind” because it was a quote that happened to represent Artemis himself. I feel like Artemis thinks he’s doing good, but in reality, he’s also walking around doing criminal like things.

The other quote I chose was: “They say those who do business with him never return”. I chose this quote because it also represented Artemis but it also sounded like a rumor from a random citizen. I thought combining the 2 would make a good choice for a quote.

  1. Which learning goal did you do your best work on? Which one do you find challenging?

I worked my hardest on making the background represent the book. I feel like I may have put too much effort into it but it ended up looking really good! The background is supposed to represent where the “Arctic Incident” happened which is supposed to be an arctic area in the middle of Russia.

My One Pager
