Today’s goal: By the end of class today my group will have designed the last step of our Rube Goldberg.

What went well  today?

The whole thing went well today! Everyone came up with amazing ideas! One of which was by me but Mostly from my other group members!

What was challenging?

It was challenging to find the correct materials needed and it was challenging figuring out what we were going to do for our end! But other than that… I had a lot of fun today! =)

What steps went into deciding  your final design?

The steps were simple: Draw out, Plan, Get checked, Get materials and then BUILD!

How many attempts did you try before finding success? If you did not find success, what do you think you need to try on Monday?

It took just about four attempts before we got something cool working but my Hypothesis was way worse and we did a lot better than my hypothesis.

What are the next steps for your group?

The next steps for my group is better materials (such as Dominoes) and More time!

Are there any additional materials your group needs to gather?

Yes. A LOT! One of which is real dominoes.

Elements Of Plot

What book are you currently reading?

I am Currently Reading Warriors Into the wild which is book one

Why did you choose this book?

I chose this book because one of my outside of school friends recommended these books to me with a five star rating!

Thinking about your book, Who are the main characters?

The main characters are three apprentices named Firepaw, Graypaw and Ravenpaw.

What was the inciting incident, or the moment that takes place that creates the story?

I have no idea because I haven’t even gotten close to finishing the series so I have no idea yet.

What smaller problems happened in the book?

The leader loses a life and one of the warriors dies from a war

Have you reached the climax of your book? What was the big moment of tension?

no

Have you reached the resolution? If yes, is it what you thought would happen? If not, how do you think the problem will be resolved?

No but I have no idea how it may resolve because this book goes on through an entire like 25 book series!

What type of conflict is occured in your book?

Same thing I said from before there was a leader that lost a life and a deputy who died.

Memoir Update

Posted by dgray21 | Posted in ELA | Posted on February 15, 2018

We’ve been working on writing memoirs in ELA for the past few weeks. Here is an update of what I’ve accomplished/learned at each stage of the writing process.

The part of the writing process that has been the most comfortable for me has always been…because…

The part of the writing process that I felt was the most comfortable was the drafting because once I had my idea I would just write and write and eventually come out with a amazing story!

The part of the writing process that has been the most challenging for me has always been….because…

The most challenging part of the writing process was editing because editing just felt so hard for me because I didn’t know where to put quotation marks sometimes I didn’t spell right and sometimes I didn’t use the correct punctuation.

Immersion

I’ve learned the characteristics of a memoir include:

I have learned that the characteristics of a memoir include stuff like memories and descriptive writing and amazing feeling or emotion.

I think the characteristic I really want to focus on in my writing is…because…

I think that I really want to work on being more specific and being more descriptive because for some reason I can never find the right descriptive words and it has always been a challenge for me.

My favorite memoir mentor text was….because the author…

My favorite memoir was Peppe the Lamplighter because the Author was really descriptive about where they were and what it looked like and what it felt like!

Generating Ideas/Selecting

Why do you want to share this idea/story with others?

I want to share this with others because I really believe this gave ma a lasting impression because of what my mom and brother said to get me up to the top and have fun!

What emotions do you want your reader to feel as they read your memoir?

I want my Readers to feel scared or feel like they are really there at the Wisconsin Dells.

Drafting

Here is my first draft:

One thing I think I did really well is….because…

One thing I did really well was be specific about how I felt because I want my reader to feel what I felt

As I head into editing and revising, one thing I want to focus on is…because…

One thing I want to focus on is being descriptive about how I felt and being descriptive about where I am because I want the reader to feel like he/she is there too.

Stay tuned for another post soon as I work on revising my first draft. If you have any SHE (specific, helpful, empathetic) feedback, please leave it as a comment!

=)

Chicken Mummification Day: Wrapping

0

Posted by dgray21 | Posted in Chicken Mummification | Posted on February 1, 2018

DON’T FORGET TO INCLUDE PICTURES. YOU SHOULD INCLUDE PICTURES FOR EACH STEP TODAY!

VOICE LEVEL TODAY 2-3

  1. Clean chicken- all powder must be removed from inside and outside of the chicken.
    1. What does your chicken look like? Be descriptive and insert a picture here. Today when we put the chicken on the table we didn’t take the powder off right away. We looked at the chicken and we said it looks like a miniature model of a mountain with snow all over it.  And without the powder it looks like a big piece of rotten food.
    2. What are the most significant changes since day 1?
    3. The changes that were really big from day one was that the powder is not changing coolers it is staying the same and the chicken doesn’t have any moisture. Also the chicken is more hard and the chicken has a change of color. Also the chickens smell has changed but what we think the chicken smells like is dirty dog and rotten eggs.
    4. Do you think the changes are realistic to the changes you would see in an actual mummy? Why or why not? We think that part of what happening to the chicken happens to humans when there mummified because we think the humans smell won’t be the same and the look of a human is different but the human and chicken both will have the same thing happen to them when we put the powder in them.

  1. GET CHECKED, have you been taking pictures?

  1. Gather and prepare supplies for stuffing and wrapping your chicken (1 metal tin for mixing glue, 1 metal tin to keep your chicken in)
    1. What supplies did you gather today? Today we gathered glue spice and our gauze that we are cutting into to smaller pieces. We also got water
    2. What measurements did you use for your gauze? The measurements were 20 inches 17 inches of gauze.
    3. How are you making sure each group member is included today?  We are missing one person today so it works better. One person is cutting gauze and one person is mixing the glue and water and one person is documenting. Everyone has their own job that help the group.

  1. GET CHECKED, have you been taking pictures?

  1. Wrap your chicken
    1. How many piece of gauze did you need? 15 -30
    2. How much glue did you use? How much water did you add? For glue we used 5 and a half. Also for water we use 2 cups.
    3. Did you put anything into your chicken? If so, what and how much? We used saw dust and spices. We put about 3 tablespoons of cloves and 3 cups of saw dust.
  2. GET CHECKED, have you been taking pictures?

  1. Clean up all materials, store your chicken, wipe your table

  1. GET CHECKED, did you take pictures? Do you think you included enough detail in your responses above? Is there anything else you think is important to add from today? If so, write it below.
