‘I Can’ Statements at Home

Hi Everyone,

Even though learning may look a little different for the weeks to come, I wanted to send you the ‘I Can’ statements we’ve been working on and the ‘I can’ statements that we will be working towards throughout the next few weeks. I will continue to align what we are learning to these content skills. If the focus of our content changes, or we move on to our next unit I will let you know.

As always, please reach out with any questions you have! I am happy to help in any way.

Gev. McAdams

5th Math:

  • I can explain patterns in the placement of the decimal point when a decimal is divided by a power of 10.
  • I can find whole-number quotients with up to four-digit dividends and two-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value and relate it to the relationship between multiplication and division.
  • I can illustrate and explain the process of division using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
  • I can divide decimals to hundredths and explain the reasoning used.

5th Science:

  • I can plan and conduct an investigation to provide evidence of the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces on the motion of an object.
  • I can develop a model of waves to describe patterns in terms of amplitude and wavelength and that waves can cause objects to move.
  • I can analyze and interpret data from maps to describe patterns of Earth’s features.
  • I can gather and synthesize information based on readings to understand and find evidence to explain the science behind waves.

6th Science:

  • I can gather and synthesize information based on readings to understand and find evidence to prove why and how we can smell odors.
  • I can develop models to describe the atomic composition of simple molecules and extended structures.
  • I can accurately represent phenomena in my model.
  • I can include key ideas and relationships in my models, while keeping my model organized and clear so others are able to understand.
  • I can develop a model that predicts and describes changes in particle motion, temperature, and state of a pure substance when thermal energy is added or removed.
