Sukkah Day 19

1. Now that the Sukkah is finished, what would you do differently next time?  Next time I would make sure I was always doing something to help the group. Next time other than making sure I was always doing something was making sure everyone else was also doing something to help the process. Next time if everyone is doing something all the time then our whole building process should go faster or at least more steady.

2. Now that the Sukkah is finished, what are you most proud of and why! Explain in at least three sentences.  Now that the sukkah is done I am most proud of how my group’s wall looks it actually looks very good. Now that the sukkah is done I am also proud of how well my group and I did at finding a lot of sticks for the roof. I am also proud that my grade made the sukkah that our families get to celebrate with us in.

3. What are three pieces of advice you have for the current 6th graders as it relates to their Sukkah?                              1.you have to be able to have fun while you are building or decorating.  2. Always do what you are told unless you know it is wrong or against the rules. 3. Share all your ideas and collaborate.

Sukkah day 18

1. Explain how the Sukkah represents Judaism to you. If it does not, explain why.   The sukkah represents Judaism to me because it is a symbol of a Jewish holiday.

2. What part of the Sukkah building process are you most excited to share with families/friends and why?   I am most excited to show my mom the wall I helped make through the building process.

3. What aspect of the building have you felt most connected to and why?   I felt the most connected to the final steps of like decorating and finishing touches.

4. How has building the Sukkah as a class helped grow your sense of community? It helped our sense of community because this was our biggest group project as a grade.

5. When your family comes to the Sukkah on Wednesday night, what is one thing you are going to tell them about and why?   I am going to tell my family how hard I worked and how hard the work was because we all get to go and have a good time inside of our sukkah that my class and I worked on.

Sukkah Day 17

1. Sukkot represents impermanence (something that should not be permanent). Explain if you believe or disagree that our Sukkah, which is safely standing on its own, is violating that.  I believe our sukkah is definitely not permanent because we can easily take all of our sukkah down.

2. Describe how this Sukkah project has changed your perspective (how has it changed, what has it changed about, has it changed for the better/worst).  This project has changed my perspective on building a sukkah and how much time it takes and how hard it is to build it. I guess that my perspective has changed in both ways of negative and positive because I got to learn how to build a building and it also showed me how stressful it is to do this.

3. Explain how you have used your body thus far to build this Sukkah.  I was picking up a lot of wood pieces and plywood pieces through the process.

4. How do you plan on getting guests into the Sukkah?  By E-mailing people to invite them to celebrate with us or post on social media or online.

5. What are some activities you wish to do in the Sukkah?   Have a meal or just like a overall. celebration.

This is a picture of one of our pieces of plywood before we put it up on our wall.

This one of the walls that will be spray painted.

Importance of Safety

1. Explain why safety is the most important aspect of any building project.    Safety is the most important aspect of any building project because if you or someone that is building gets hurt then you might have to go and look back to see if you need to change something or make it more stable or add another screw or another nail.

2. Explain three things people should do to make sure they are staying safe.  Three things people should do to make sure they are staying safe by not running with sharp objects, watch your surroundings when using something sharp or holding/carrying something heavy, and don’t use something you weren’t told to use or weren’t trained/taught correctly how to use.

Sukkah day 16

1. What did you do today (describe the process of what you accomplished)?  Today I was helping with getting carriage bolts inside the walls. It took me a while to finish the hole I was trying to drill for like 10 minutes. Today I also helped mark up the plywood so we could tell what plywood belongs to what group.
2. What is one thing you have done so far you were initially scared/worried about, but now feel more confident in after all this practice?  I have have done many things I was scared to do like drill a really large hole in our wall. I also thought I was marking the wrong plywood for each group but I was doing it correctly. I was also initially a little scared to see how big our sukkah was actually going to be.
3. Give a step by step account of what you have done so far to get our Sukkah up to where it is today.

  1. We wrote out a plan
  2. We modeled our plan
  3. We went and we bought the wood
  4. We combined two studs of each length (8,10,12,16) and screwed them together
  5. We put carriage  to keep our studs together
  6. We started to work outside with making our frame complete
  7. once we finished the frame we had to cut our top plate at a ten-degree angle
  8. We screwed our studs into our frame and we nailed our studs into our frame
  9. once we finished our wall we had to bring our wall over to our final assembling spot
  10. We put 2×4 to support our walls so we could attach them so they won’t fall
  11. We brought over a bunch of plywood
  12. We connected two of our walls with carriage bolts and nuts and washers
  13. I also today put a carriage bolt inside a hole I drilled in the wall

Sukkah Day 15

1. What did you do today?  Today I helped move the fourth wall over to the final sukkah assembling spot. I also carried a couple pieces of plywood over to our sukkah. And the last thing I did today was that I helped put up 3 out of 4 walls today.

2. What is one thing you have done so far you were initially scared/worried about, but now feel more confident in after all this practice?    Initially, I was scared to put up the walls. I was also scared to attach the walls because I thought the walls would fall. I was also scared to move the 4th wall because it was really heavy and I thought we were going to drop it.

In this picture, a bunch of my class and I are bringing over studs to go and support our wall so it would stay up.

In this picture, I am putting nuts and washers onto our first three carriage bolts so it would help keep the carriage bolts steady inside our walls so they don’t fall.

In this picture, we were putting the third wall up so then we could use the studs to support the weight of the walls to keep it up until we got all of the walls for sukkah up and connected with some more carriage bolts.

Sukkah Day 14

1. Explain in at least two sentences what YOU accomplished today.  I accomplished getting two nails into our wall and finishing my group’s wall. I also helped move 3 walls to our final sukkah location spot (Including my own wall).

2. Explain in at least two sentences what YOUR GROUP accomplished today. My group finished our wall today after being behind for days. My group also helped bring three out of the four walls to the final sukkah location.

3. Explain in at least two sentences what YOUR GROUP has to finish tomorrow. Tomorow my group needs to help move the fourth wall once it’s done. My group also has to start putting up our plywood on our wall.

Sukkah Day 13

1. Today, we worked on getting our last 11 nails in our wall and it felt good and amazing to do this because we were so behind a couple days ago we were really behind all the other groups and today we caught up to all of the other groups.

2. An example of when I worked well with a classmate was when they couldn’t get the nail into one of our studs so I helped them get it inserted and straight then they finished getting the nail in the rest of the way.

3. I have to still put in the last 5 nails in to secure the last couple of studs officially and then we are done. I am feeling so amazingly proud because our group was so behind for so long and we were almost done.

Sukkah day 12

In this photo, we are measuring and marking our studs so we can go and cut it. We worked better today than other days.

AK is putting in the nails for stud number 1. We worked really well and got 4 studs done and put in our frame.

Sukkah Day 10

1. What did your group accomplish today? We accomplished getting the screws and nails in on the other side of the frame.

2. What do you have left to complete in order for your wall to be finished?  our group has to still cut our studs to fit and put them in our frame then put the top plate on top of our frame.

3. What help do you need from Adon Kaufman or your classmates? Be specific.  Our group needs help with putting in our studs correctly and to put on our top plate on and cutting our studs at the right angle.
