Day 2 – Filled with value

I am so grateful to work at MJDS. In my seventeen years as an educator, there is no other school I’ve worked in or visited that lives its core values so authentically. The key is having every adult on the same page and consistently using common language with each other and our students. Our staff are bought in to this approach and as a result, our students see/hear/feel that authenticity daily and strive to meet our expectations.

As I walk around the building and in and out of classes, it is amazing how students and teachers are interacting. In each class there is honest and positive dialogue around how students should engage with one another and their teachers. Students are leading classroom conversations about expectations and how to respond in a solutions-oriented manner when someone is struggling to meet those shared expectations.

Most schools do this on a surface level, driven by the adults, and then focus on curriculum. At MJDS we know that starting with culture and having it drive everything we say and do is essential to a healthy school and an environment that fosters social, emotional and academic growth in all children.

To our 38th and best year yet!

  1. 17 years? You’re old! 😄. But really, thank you for helping build this learning space for our kids and our community.

  2. We are working to implement core values at my music school and I often talk about MJDS and its path the past few years. Empathy, wonder, and tikkun olam are now an indelible part of MJDS’ school culture. ❤️
Thank you for your leadership, Adon Lippman!

  3. “lives its core values so authentically” There is no doubt we feel this on a daily basis. Thank you for leading us on this path.
