Why I see MJDS as more than a school

Last year I invited our 8th graders to be guest bloggers on my blog. As part of our ongoing evolution as a school that truly empowers children to own their learning, I continue to invite students to share their stories. This is our first 8th grade guest blogger in 2018-2019. I am so proud that he chose to take this risk and share a part of his MJDS story. I hope you enjoy…

My name is Harry and I have been attending the Milwaukee Jewish Day School since fourth grade. This is my fifth, and final year at MJDS. As I embark on my 8th grade year, I am continuously surrounded and warmed by the loving staff at the day school.
To start off, the teachers put their heart and soul into their job which is ultimately their students. It is not very common to come across a school where each teacher cares about each of their students in a different individual way, and makes sure each and every student reaches their full potential. Teachers also know each students personally not only as a student in the classroom, but as a person outside of the classroom. I am very thankful that I have been able to attend a school where each person is recognized in a unique and different way and can stand out from the crowd. I also think that the teachers should be recognized for all of their hard work and dedication.
Not only are the teachers great academically, they are also very nice people to be around. For example, every morning it is nice to know that there are always people to greet you in the morning who are happy to see you again. Some of the teachers even have nicknames for each of their students. This just goes to show how much more of a family we are than just a school.
Lastly, the teachers are always there for you when you need them. They will go out of their way to make sure that you understand everything that you need to and they will make sure that you are always where you need to be emotionally, physically and mentally. If you are ever feeling down, teachers will always go out of their way to talk to you and make sure you are ok. There have been multiple times when my teachers have adjusted their schedules just to make time for me to catch up on or understand classwork. Or if you are having a bad day they will always be right there to talk and help you through it.
Not only are the teachers great, but the whole staff/administration is great as well. They are always very friendly whether it is just smiling at you in the hallway or helping you with something in the office. MJDS is a place where there is always someone to support you and help you through anything. Now that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any challenges, (because believe me, there are) but there is always somebody to help you along the way. I have a lot of memorable experiences attending this school and I can’t wait to see what 8th grade has in store for me. I will always try to make the best of everything because I am very fortunate and lucky to be able to attend such a great school 5 days a week. So whenever I am struggling with something in school, I always try to remind myself how lucky and thankful I should be. Now that doesn’t mean that my struggles aren’t worth something, it just means that they are possibly an opportunity for me to grow in such a loving environment.

  1. So glad I made the decesion to send you to MJDS! Way to go Harry for giving credit to all the people who deserve it!

  2. This is such a special feeling, and why so many of us love sending our kids to MJDS. To know there are so many people looking out for our kids, and challenging them, and helping them grow every day.
