Who are we and why do we exist?

At MJDS we are focused on three foundational core values that drive our choices, actions and outcomes as Jewish people. We WONDER to encourage curiosity and appreciation of the world around us. We practice EMPATHY to understand and share in the feelings of others. Through TIKKUN OLAM we develop the desire and capability to heal injustice. Every day we think about these values, talk about them as a community and put them into action to improve ourselves and the world around us so that we are forever moving from ME to We.

Through blogging we hope to share our growth as individuals and community. We know that learning is a process and we get messy, take risks and have fun so that our students move from engagement to empowerment in each class, each day. As our learning journey continues, we grow in our consistent implementation of our guardrails. We define the guardrails as:

Documentation, Reflection, Questioning, Peer feedback and Self monitoring and assessment.

Through these guardrails we provide the opportunity for students to wonder, to be empathetic and to repair the world as they learn and grow. We embed our core values in all aspects of the MJDS experience so that every student is prepared for a lifetime of success, leadership and engagement with the world.

Moving forward I will communicate primarily through my blog. Occasionally you will receive emails and snail mail from me but my weekly blog posts will be the focal point. I am excited to read your comments and engage in meaningful dialogue throughout the year.
