Minecraft breakout reflection

  • What did you notice or observe during this challenge?

That you have to spread out work throughout your group.

  • What kind of questions did you ask yourself (meta)?

Am I right? How do you multiply again? Do I have to use a calculator? Do I have to do the quiz?

  • What was your “aha” moment during this challenge? How did this impact finishing the challenge?

That blue and red made violet. this was our last resort so if this didn’t work we didn’t have anything else.

  • How did this challenge compare to the other two we have completed?

This one was a lot harder. and we had to learn not to dought ourselves.

  • What was the most challenging aspect of this challenge?

The 8 letter word lock because we didn’t know where to start.

  • What two strategies helped you and your team the most when completing the challenge? (Use the strategy sheet for this! If you used a different strategy, list it here as well)

Be persistent. Don’t dought yourself.

Silly shamrock reflection

  • What did you notice or observe during this challenge?

That this one went a lot faster than the other one. this could mean that it was easier, more fun, or since we were on a time crunch it made us work harder.

  • What kind of questions did you ask yourself (meta)?

“Is this everything there is on this page? how much time do we have left? Are we right?”

  • How did the time limit impact your ability to solve this breakout session?

I think it made us work harder and faster.

  • What were your biggest connections when solving this challenge?

When we figured out what the border for the number lock was for.

  • What was the most challenging aspect of this challenge?

The timed aspect. I do not like being timed.

  • What two strategies helped you and your team the most when completing the challenge?

look closer and don’t give up.

Og’s Great Adventure Reflection

  • What did you notice or observe during the challenge?

That there were some dad jokes involved. And that it was very fun

  • What kind of questions did you ask yourself (meta)?

What do you call a sleeping dinosaur.

  • When did you first begin drawing connections between the different puzzles and pictures?

When Gev. Mc Adams told us to click the A.

  • What were those connections?

That each dinosaur picture corresponds with a letter on the other website.

  • What were your biggest clues?

All of the links that sent us to pictures.

  • What was most challenging?

Figuring out the 9 letter word lock.

  • What was your biggest ah-ha moment? Why

Figuring out what you call a sleeping Dinosaur. Because it took a long time to figure it out.

Reflecting on clue.

  • What thinking moves did you use when playing this game (questioning, connecting, listening, observing, deducing, reasoning, etc?

I used deduction, and reasoning, to figure out what the correct cards are to guess. I also questioned myself to see if I’m right.

  • How did organizing your information impact your experience playing the game?

It made it a lot easier to see what’s wrong and what’s right. and it wasn’t easy to mess up that system.

  • Where else do you use these thinking skills (at school, at home, on sports teams, etc)?

When I’m thinking of who to pass to in basketball. (would I pass it to him? well no because he’s being covered)

  • When might you need this kind of thinking?

When I’m playing any game with strategy, or maybe doing a problem where I have to guess and check.

First Clue

What did you notice or observe during the game?

That I was not the only one who didn’t completely know how to play.

What kind of questions did you ask yourself (meta)?

I asked myself if we are playing right, because we were not the same characters as our pawns.

When did you first begin drawing connections between different characters, clues, pieces of information?

When I made the super lucky guess with 5 minuets left of class.

What were those connections?

The Library, wrench and Mrs. White. I got everything right other than Mrs. White. It was actually Professor Plum.

What were your biggest clues?

the people, because had everybody crossed out except for professor Plum, and Mrs. White.

What information seems most important to collect?

Where the murder happened because then you wont have to keep moving around the board.

*What is the difference between an observation and information?

An observation is something that you see or notice. Information is something that’s factually correct.

Testing our Rapunzel Creations

What materials did you choose for your build and why?

We chose wood for the pully, cardboard for the tower and outside of the pully, and model magick for Repunzel. We chose these because they seemed like the cheapest and easiest materials to use.

Here is a picture of my plan:

Here is a picture of my first attempt at the building process:

While you test:

What are you noticing?

We re noticing that Repunzel always lands on her head. She is also traveling too quickly to the ground.

What things are working?

The pully is working fine. The tower is staying up. and the string isn’t falling off of Repunzel.

What things are not working?

Sometimes the string falls off the pully. And Rapunzel is falling to the ground a little more quickly than we’d like.

How will you tweak this? Make this better? (Be specific and detailed!)

We can make Rapunzel a little heavier so she doesn’t fall to the ground to fast. And we can make the trench in the pully deeper.

Do you need any new materials? If so, WHY?

Yes, we will need plastic for the parachute.

Sketch your new design with labels on a piece of paper. Make sure your drawing is detailed and specifically labeled.

Insert your sketch here:

Why will this new design work better than your first attempt? What is your evidence?

It will work better because there are more safeguards in case of Rapunzel falling.

Testing our Rapunzel Creations

What materials did you choose for your build and why?

We chose cardboard for the tower and the pulley, wood for the pulley and the weight for Rapunzel, Foam as the base, and hot glue to hold everything together.

While you test:

What are you noticing?

The string is sometimes getting caught on the side of the pulley.

The pully is working fine and the tower is staying up.

What things are not working?

The string sometimes gets caught in the side of the pulley.

How will you tweak this? Make this better? (Be specific and detailed!)

We may add a parachute to slow her down, and we will put a smaller gap in between the pully and the side of the pulley.

Do you need any new materials? If so, WHY?

yes, we need either wax paper or a bag of very thin plastic.

Sketch your new design with labels on a piece of paper. Make sure your drawing is detailed and specifically labeled.

Insert your sketch here:

Why will this new design work better than your first attempt? What is your evidence?

Yes, I think so because the parachute will help slow Repunzul down, and closing the gap in between the wood and cardboard in the pulley will stop the rope from falling off.

Building Reflection

What about the building process was challenging?

We had to make a smaller version of the pully because it weighed too much.

How did your build differ from your plan? (If your build was different than your plan, update your plan!)

We made Repunzul out of model magic.

How did your group work well together during the build? What would you do again?

We all had different jobs to get things done quicker.

How did your group struggle during the build? What would you change?

We didn’t have enough time so we kind of rushed and it didn’t turn out how well it could have.

Rapunzel Planning Reflection

How did spending more time on planning, improve your final blueprint?

We changed little things like instead of a pebble we are going to have another 3D printed person but it is a dummy.

How did your group come to one final plan after brainstorming several ideas?

We voted on which idea we liked the most, and we came to the conclusion that we do a pully.

Why do you think taking more time to plan was important?

Because if we didn’t we could miss some things that might be important, like how is a pebble going to weigh the same weight as something 3D printed.

Did brainstorming with multiple people help you come up with more ideas? How?

Yes, it did because they came up with more ideas than I would alone.

What would you differently during the planning process next time?

I would take more time to think of ideas so I can generate more ideas.
